A welcoming hostel on a private island where you can rent a room or cabin to explore the surroundings. Open from May to October, easily accessible by Waxholmsbolaget, water taxi, or your own boat, sail, or paddle to our sheltered lagoon.
Stora Kalholmen is owned by the Archipelago Foundation and is a member of the Swedish Tourist Association. It is leased and operated by Eva and Lotten, who ensure a welcoming and comfortable stay for all guests.
Room or cabin
We offer 29 beds distributed across four rooms and four cabins.
The main house features a spacious dining room with a cozy fireplace. The kitchen is well-equipped with two stoves, ovens, kitchen utensils, and fresh cold drinking water from the tap.
The five-bed cabin and Sjöstugan also include a small kitchenette and are located close to the water.
We often enjoy sunny days and magical sunsets, making our grills and outdoor picnic tables a popular choice for dining.
Here, we wash in the sea or relax in the sauna, and we use the outhouse for our needs
At Stora Kalholmen, you can rent the entire house to celebrate special occasions with friends, host unique conferences, or organize school trips. Looking for your own island for a special event? Here you'll find most necessities: various canned goods, pasta, tomato sauce, beans, crispbread, biscuits, chips, candy, and ice cream. We also have cold soft drinks in our cooler, but no other refrigerated items like butter and cheese.
If you'd like to buy a cup of coffee to enjoy with your ice cream and relax under a parasol at Café Livmedikus, you're welcome to do so.
This is also where you can rent a rowboat, canoe, or SUP (stand-up paddleboard).
